He was fabricated using foam, tights, latex, metal, acrylic, pva, cardboard and milliput.

Prop maker and buyer working for 'White Horse Theatre'. (Soest, Germany, October 2007).

White Horse Theatre produces 9 touring theatre shows in each rehearsal period. At the end of a 5 week rehearsal and making period the productions depart from the theatre in Soest and tour Germany and Europe for a year teaching English to school children through theatre.

I worked with one other prop maker and a needle person shared with the costume department. Together with the other prop maker (in this rehearsal period Emma Reid) I communicated with directors and designers to buy, find and make all the props for 9 shows. I also supervised work experience students, drove a van and managed my own deadlines and managed budgets.

The puppet and burger were designed by Corina Bona, and the helmet and mask by Ioannis Kritikopoulos.

Fabricated fat suit for the character
‘Fat Augustus’ from the children‘s book ‘Struwwelpeter’ (BA project at LCF, 2007)

This fat suit was a realisation of one of my own designs. It was constructed from reticulated foam and made by scaling up a pattern from a smaller maquette. It was made to fit an actor and I later used it to make a short film.

The mask was constructed from plastizote pattern pieces and scrimmed using latex and butter muslin. I painted it using acrylic and blocked a felt hood over a dolly block to keep the mask snugly in place on the actor’s head.

Emily Gould made ‘Fat Augustus’ sailorboy costume. Emily drafted the pattern by draping fabric on the foam shape. There is a link to Emily’s website in the ‘links’ page.

Parade piece for ‘The A1 Festival of Light’ (‘The Little Angel Theatre’, London, 2006)

I was one of 6 volunteers asked by ‘The Little Angel Theatre’ to work at the theatre every Sunday for 6 weeks. We designed and made our own carnivalesque structures for a parade down the A1 in Highbury.

They were fabricated using withy and ‘wet strength’ tissue paper. Mine was over 10 foot tall, could move its head and wings, was decorated using french enamel varnish and lit from the inside with LEDs.

I later set fire to the structure as I had nowhere to store it and thought it would be fun to see it burn.
